Miniature Peristaltic Pump for Precise OEM Dosing: The P408

Miniature Peristaltic Pump for Precise OEM Dosing: The P408

A peristaltic pump moves fluid by squeezing a flexible tube. Rollers press the tube closed and travel along it, pushing a measured volume forward with every pass. Because the fluid stays inside the tubing the whole time, it never touches the pump's rollers, motor or housing. That simple principle makes peristaltic pumps a natural choice for precise dosing and for fluids that must stay clean or be kept away from mechanical parts. The Paquin P408 Miniature Peristaltic Pump applies that principle in a compact, stepper-motor-driven package designed to integrate easily into OEM equipment.

Where a miniature peristaltic pump makes sense

Many products need to deliver a small, repeatable amount of liquid on command. Examples include detergent in a pressure washer, a treatment additive in a water purifier, or an ingredient on a food production line. Designers of this equipment usually want three things from the pump: accurate, adjustable flow; straightforward control from the machine's electronics; and wetted materials suited to the fluid being handled.

A miniature peristaltic pump addresses all three. Flow is governed by motor speed and tubing size, the drive can be controlled electronically, and the only wetted part in the pump head is the tube itself. Changing to a different fluid is largely a matter of choosing compatible tubing.

What the P408 brings to your design

  • Stepper motor drive. A stepper motor gives the P408 smooth, controllable rotation from 0 to 500 rpm, with start/stop and forward/reverse operation.
  • Flow from 1 to 420 mL/min. Three flow ranges are available, each matched to a tubing size, so the pump can be sized to your dosing requirement.
  • Two roller configurations. The standard head uses two primary rollers plus two auxiliary stability wheels. A four-roller version is also available.
  • Low noise. Quiet operation makes the P408 well suited to equipment used in homes and other noise-sensitive environments.
  • Simple mounting. The pump body includes built-in mounting holes, and straight or elbow tubing connectors can be specified.

Three ways to control it

The P408 runs on 24 VDC and is offered with three driver options, so it can be matched to the controller already in your design:

  • Pulse (D1): start/stop, forward/reverse and speed regulation by PWM pulse signal
  • RS-485 Modbus (D2): start/stop, direction and speed set over a Modbus data connection
  • Voltage (D3): start/stop, direction and speed set by an external analog voltage

With these driver options, the P408 can be commanded from a PLC, so dosing can run automatically as part of a larger process.

Matching tubing to the fluid and the flow

Tubing determines both the flow range and the chemical compatibility of a peristaltic pump. The P408 is offered with three flow ranges, each paired with a specific tube size:

  • 1–160 mL/min with #16 tubing (3.2 mm inner diameter)
  • 1–330 mL/min with #25 tubing (4.8 mm inner diameter)
  • 1–420 mL/min with #17 tubing (6.4 mm inner diameter)

Four tubing materials are available. Each carries the approvals listed in the P408 datasheet:

Tubing Listed approvals Temperature range Sterilization
BPT FDA, REACH, NSF, RoHS, USP Class VI -58 to 275°F (-50 to 135°C) Ethylene oxide, autoclave or gamma
Silicone FDA, REACH, NSF, RoHS, USP Class VI; food grade (SGS); medical grade (FDA) -76 to 392°F (-60 to 200°C) Autoclave
A60-F NSF, REACH, RoHS, FDA -76 to 284°F (-60 to 140°C) Autoclave
Viton FDA, REACH, RoHS -22 to 392°F (-30 to 200°C) Autoclave

Published flow figures were measured with clean water at room temperature (23°C), a 0.2 m suction lift and no outlet pressure. Viscosity, density, temperature, pressure and lift all influence actual flow, so keeping those conditions stable helps maintain dosing accuracy.

  • Pressure washers
  • Water purifiers
  • Aromatherapy devices
  • Pharmaceutical production
  • Food and beverage production

If your application calls for smaller or larger volumes, Paquin's range extends in both directions. The P162 handles micro-flow delivery from 0 to 2 mL/min, and the P164 reaches up to 2,050 mL/min.

Every P408 is configured to order from its flow range, tubing material and length, roller count, connector style and driver type. Send us your dosing requirement through the inquiry form on the P408 product page. Describe the fluid, the flow you need and how you plan to control the pump, and our team will put together a quotation for the matching configuration.
